Ponkunnam Damodaran was a lyricist, novelist, dramatist who was active in or before the 1950s. He wrote the song “Pachappanamthate…”, used in the Malayalam film Nottam. He was born in Ponkunnam in [Kottayam District] of Kerala.He wrote novels: Sarpam kotthunna sathyangal,Aadarsam theechoolayanu etc.Also he wrote plays: Mathamethaayaalum manushyan nannavanam, Rashtra silpi etc.He wrote 6 beautiful songs with Vayalar Ramavarma in Nammalonnu-drama written by Cherukaadu.The song ‘Irunaazhi manninnai urukunna karshakar irukaali maadukalaayirunnu’ Pachappanamthathe punnarappoomuthe punnellin poonkarale’ are were written fotr this play and music done by M.S.Babu raj and sung by kzhikkode Abdul kader.
